Melanie McCummiskey is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a passion for executing assessments, evaluations, and treatment planning to assist clients seeking psychological services.
Currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology, with a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University, Melanie is well-equipped to guide clients who have experienced complex trauma and those struggling with mental health, mood, and personality disorders.
Melanie is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, a form of psychotherapy in which the person being treated is asked to recall distressing images. Leveraging various solution-focused and evidence-based approaches, along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Melanie actively strives to promote her clients’ overall mental state.
As a Certified Trauma Professional and a Certified Anxiety Informed Professional, Melanie believes in using mindfulness skills with progressive muscle relaxation and a variety of other tools to help clients achieve stability in their day-to-day lives.
To maximize client success and engagement, Melanie implements a collaborative approach to allow clients to take the driver seat while she sits passenger side. Using this approach, Melanie assists clients by fostering a safe environment that allows them to feel comfortable holding the wheel and moving forward through their lives. Open to all age groups, Melanie enjoys using her versatile skill set to help people get on track to being the best possible version of themselves.
Prior to joining Compassionate Edge Counseling in 2021, Melanie served as Social and Emotional Learning Coordinator with the Kankakee States Attorney’s Office, where she was responsible for teaching social and emotional learning skills to students in grades 5-12 in the Kankakee County School District.
